DIGITAL DESIGN DEVELOPMENT...

I was looking also into the microscopic pictures of bee; the one I have chosen captures the precise structure of the bee's eye which mirrors the structure of the honeycomb. The middle design presents another microscopic image, but of the wing.

DIGITAL DESIGN IDEAS AND DEVELOPMENT...

At this stage I have created the repeating pattern of the honeycomb but am trying different methods of changing or varying it; by changing colours and pattern placement for example. I was working first with Adobe Illustrator and then Photo Shop.

This design by Rebecca Asquith was inspired by the beauty of a beehive when she designed the aptly named Nectar hanging lamp that will debut at the Milan Furniture Fair next week. Made of 100% durable polyester, each pendant lamp is fully recyclable! In honey inspired crèmes and oranges, the Nectar collection pays tribute to nature in both form and process.

RESEARCH CONTINUATION...ARCHITECTURE

The new skyscraper called Sinosteel International Plaza will be build in China in city of Tianjin. This building is still under construction and it should be completed in 2012. The architecture form of this skyscraper is inspired by the form of honey bee hives.
“Outside the framework of this building will form hexagonal, such as the form contained in the honey bee hive. Because it is so sturdy honeycomb design, then only by using the order outside of these buildings are actually sturdy enough to handle the weight of the building. So this building will not require too much building reinforcing pillars that must be installed in the middle of building construction such as tall buildings on the other.”

RESEARCH CONTINUATION... ARCHITECTURE

This project was designed for Malaysia that to create Skyscraper for new residents moving to the area in coming years. According to the area’s growth management plan - population is expected to nearly double numbers from its 2005 by the year 2025. The architecture studend in Sarawak; Johor Baru, Atta Irdrawani Zaini and Ungku Norani Sonet named the project Honeycomb Skyscraper. That skyscrapers should only be built when density deems necessary, their building will be fully utilized as the population grows.

“The building is highly modern, a wall of repeating polygonal pods, but is made interesting visually and in terms of design by the random way in which the units are stuck together. The condos cluster in two wave like walls that attach to the wide front of a tall, rectangular main lobby and elevator area. As people fill the residences in the skyscraper jungle of Johor Baru, Dense City will undoubtedly be one of the most unique trees in the forest.”

HONEY COMB EXISTING DESIGNS

This design shows a honeycomb wall where cuts of Swarovski crystals have been installed, creating elegant, posh and amazing patterns that become reflective when light is beamed onto it.

"Another extraordinary architectural use of the fabulous Swarovski crystal."

HONEY COMB RESEARCH

I want to use the shape of a honey comb as the main pattern for my wallpapers' range; Its organic symmetry and 3 dimensional effect means I can take inspiration from many existing products and items, while creating something wholly original. Designed well and it could be a very attractive wallpaper. I will collect and assess, through research, current Honeycomb designs to see how the design is applied to other work.
